Preferred visiting hours at The Washington Home are from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., but family and friends are welcome to visit their loved ones at any time should the need arise.

Visiting hours are 24 hours a day for residents or patients receiving hospice care through our care continuum services.

For security purposes the doors are locked between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. If you are planning to visit during these hours, please make prior arrangements.

Public Transportation:
We can be reached by a number of different bus lines. If you are taking the metro, The Washington Home and Hospice of Washington is near the Tenleytown Metro stop on the red line.

From the North:
From 495 (beltway) Exit onto Wisconsin Ave. south (Rte. 355), turn left on Upton St. (The Friendship Heights Post office will be on the corner of Wisconsin and Upton); The Washington Home is located 2/10 mile down Upton St. on the right.

From the South:
From 14th St. Bridge: follow signs to 14th St. (left lane) and proceed along 14th St. about 1 1/4 miles to K St., and turn LEFT on K St.; take K St. 4/10 mile to Connecticut Ave., turn RIGHT on Connecticut Ave, take Connecticut Ave. 1/2 mile to Dupont Circle and follow circle halfway around to rejoin Connecticut Ave. at top of circle, then continue on Connecticut Ave. approximately 2 1/2 miles to Van Ness St. (at the University of D.C.); turn LEFT on Van Ness St. and follow Van Ness St. for 1/2 mile 37th St., turn LEFT on 37th St., follow 37th St. 1 block to Upton St., turn RIGHT on Upton St., and The Washington Home will be on your immediate left.

From the East:
From U.S. 50/New York Ave., take New York Ave. approximately 4 miles to where it joints Mt. Vernon Place; take Mt. Vernon Place 2 blocks to where it connects with Massachusetts Ave.; take Massachusetts Ave. 1/2 mile to Thomas Circle, proceed through Thomas Circle, continue on Massachusetts Ave., approximately 1/8 mile to Scott Circle, proceed through Scott Circle, and continue on Massachusetts Ave., an additional 1/4 mile to Dupont Circle; proceed partway through Dupont Circle to Connecticut Ave., turn RIGHT on Connecticut Ave. approximately 2 1/2 miles to Van Ness St. (at the University of D.C.); turn LEFT on Van Ness St. and follow Van Ness St. for 1/2 mile 37th St. turn LEFT on 37th St., follow 37th St. 1 block to Upton St., turn RIGHT on Upton St., and The Washington Home will be on your immediate left.

From the West:
From the Key Bridge, turn RIGHT on M St.; for 1 1/2 blocks then turn LEFT on 33rd St.; take 33rd St.; turn RIGHT on Q St.; take Q st. 1 block to Wisconsin Ave., turn LEFT on Wisconsin Ave., and proceed 2.6 miles to Upton St. (The Friendship Heights Post office will be on the corner of Wisconsin and Upton); turn RIGHT on Upton St., The Washington Home is located 2/10 mile down Upton St., on the right.
