include many services in the daily initial rates that are used
by almost
all residents. Included in the daily initial rate, at no additional
charge
to the residents is:

• Nutrition care, therapy and counseling
• Therapeutic activities, including entertainment, parties
for residents and pet
therapy
• Housekeeping and laundry
• 24-hour security and RN supervision

• Medical record administration
10. How can I prepare a loved one
for placement in a long-term care facility?
It is important to involve your loved one in the decision making
process as much as possible. Accompany them to the facility to
meet some of the caregivers
and
take a tour. If that is not an option, then share literature on the facility
with them.
Allow your loved one to be heard as they express both their positive and
negative feelings. Constant reassurance of your support and involvement
will help decrease
feelings of abandonment. The initial adjustment phase can be a time of
great anxiety. Make sure to be present on the day of admission, meet the
staff
and show your interest in your loved one’s well being. Most residents
adjust quickly and within one to three months a sense of calm and contentment
is present for both the resident and their family.
