(Washington DC - October 9, 2008) Jeffrey Zaslow, co-author with Randy Pausch of the best-seller, "The Last Lecture," will be in town on November 14 to accept The Art Buchwald Award at the 120th Anniversary Gala of The Washington Home and Community Hospices.

Mr. Zaslow is a columnist for The Wall Street Journal and Dr. Pausch, who died in July of this year, was a professor of Computer Science and Human Computer Interaction and Design at Carnegie-Mellon University. Their book is based on Dr. Pausch's final lecture entitled, Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams, delivered after he learned that he had pancreatic cancer and only months to live.

The Art Buchwald Award honors people who help others face the challenges of life in its final stages. Art Buchwald was a renowned humorist, author and Pulitzer Prize winner. He became a symbol of dying with dignity in 2006 when he made the courageous decision to forgo further medical treatment and enter the Inpatient Unit of the Community Hospice of Washington to live out his remaining days.

The Washington Home and Community Hospices is celebrating 120 years as a provider of compassionate long-term and end-of-life care to residents in Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia. The Inpatient Hospice Unit was the first - and remains the only - freestanding hospice in the District of Columbia.
