Together, we are able to share a wealth of knowledge and resources that yield significant benefits to the people we serve.

Medical Expertise in the Atmosphere of Home
At The Washington Home Rehabilitation Unit, 85 percent of our patients return to their homes following a successful rehabilitation program. The rehabilitation team consists of physical, occupational, and speech therapists with bachelors and/or master’s degrees in their respective fields. The therapists at The Washington Home strive to restore as much function as possible and to return each patient to their prior functional level. In addition to our rehabilitation therapists, the unit also has an on-site medical team consisting of a nurse practitioner, nurse manager and physician that can attend to patients' medical needs.

In physical therapy, patients work on strengthening, walking on even and uneven surfaces, balance, stair negotiations, and endurance. In occupational therapy, patients work on strengthening and endurance to improve function in their activities of daily living. These activities include a person’s ability to bathe, dress, and conduct personal hygiene independently. Occupational therapists also work on skills of home management such as preparing a meal, doing laundry, and light cleaning. In speech therapy, patients work to improve swallowing deficits, memory deficits, voice dysfunction, and/or language barriers. If a restoration of function is not possible, therapists will work with patients and their families to adapt to their environment and to use compensatory techniques in order to achieve the highest possible functional level possible.
