Yes. Residents of The Washington Home enjoy a quiet, residential
neighborhood in Northwest Washington, beautiful outdoor gardens
and visiting areas.
Private, brightly lit, spacious rooms are essential to our resident’s
quality of life and independence. Each unit has cable TV access
and a phone. The Rehabilitation
Unit was designed to encourage
socialization and participation in activities and entertainment.

4. What is the average length of stay?
The average length of stay on our Rehabilitation Unit has been
30 days with variations based on diagnosis and continued qualification
for the Rehabilitation Unit.
5. What is Rehabilitation care?
Rehabilitation care is a comprehensive, cost-effective, inpatient
level of care for individuals that are rehabilitating and recovering
following hospitalization
from surgery, injury, or illness. Rehabilitation care offers 24-hour
Registered Nurse
coverage and focuses on helping people of all ages recover quickly so
they can return home safely and successfully.
6. Who provides Rehabilitation care?
The Washington Home offers specialized Rehabilitation care from a
team of medical and other professionals, which includes activity
therapists,
a nurse
manager, care
manager, geriatric physicians, nurse practitioners, social workers
and registered clinical dieticians.
7. What are the typical goals of Rehabilitation
care?

8. What is a typical day like?
A typical day at The Washington Home varies based on the patient’s
needs. The typical hours of therapy are from 9am-12pm and 2pm-
4pm. Patients have
anywhere from 30 minutes to three hours of therapy per day based on
their goals. Most of our
patients receive two to three hours of therapy daily. If a patient
is unable to tolerate therapy for a long time then they attend
in
the morning
and return after lunch
as well.
9. What happens if a patient refuses
therapy on a particular day?
If a patient refuses therapy on a particular day, they are encouraged
to participate and Medicare rules and regulations are explained to
them. Per
Medicare guidelines,
if a patient refuses for three consecutive days they are no longer
appropriate for the Rehabilitation Unit.
10. How long will a patient be able to
stay on the Rehabilitation Unit?
As long as there is a skilled need to stay on the unit. A skilled
need includes therapy and/or skilled nursing. In order to continue
to qualify,
a patient
must continue to progress towards their goals in therapy.
