Dear Friends and Supporters,
You may have heard that things are changing at the Washington Home and Community Hospices. As we continue to evolve and invest in our organization that has served the Washington community for over 100 years, we want to keep you informed about our current status and our plans for the future. You are important to helping us fulfill our continuing mission, whether as a clinical caregiver or partner, a volunteer, a generous donor, or a family that has allowed us the privilege of caring for your loved one.
First and foremost, our mission remains the same: To provide quality end-of-life care with compassion and innovation and to foster dignity and independence in those we serve. We have a dedicated hospice team that continues to provide end-of-life care, at ALL four levels of care, across the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
What will be changing is our location. As you know, in 2016 we phased out our long-term care residential nursing home and rehabilitation programs to focus on our hospice services. During the time since, our DC office and hospice in-patient facility remained in the Upton Street building, although we were using only a small part of the large building. In December, we moved out of our Upton Street location and are preparing to move into our new DC headquarters located at 1875 Connecticut Avenue on March 1, 2019.
To keep pace with the changing healthcare environment and the future needs of the communities we serve, we are considering new models of providing and supporting hospice care and related end-of-life services. We are exploring options for having in-patient care rooms in several locations in the city. In the meantime, we have collaborated with other hospice organizations to provide in-patient care for our patients who reach the point of needing or wanting such care. Our dedicated hospice team will CONTINUE providing care throughout this time.
